“love is a place” was commissioned in loving memory of Sarah and Hendrik Drake
by family members and friends Toby Rotman, Lisa Giannone and Lucille Seeley.
The work is a tribute to Sarah and Hendrik – their passion for music, and their deep love
for one another. One of the commissioners is a flutist, and another a ballet dancer
and choreographer. They suggested a work that could be both a concert piece
and a pas de deux for dancers. This piece is inspired by a beautiful poem
by E.E. Cummings entitled “Love is a Place”.
The composer wishes to thank the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation of
New Mexico for providing invaluable time and space to compose this work
