“Working with Andrea Clearfield to commission “The Kiss” was a wonderfully enriching experience for our chorus. She brings so much of her passion to her work, and was very generous in sharing her insights and process with the group. I appreciated her flexibility and patience in helping us find just the right text, as well as willingness to adapt the work as it became actualized in rehearsal. She has an incredible talent of creating texture and making poetry come to life with her music, offering an intense and satisfying experience for all who sing, interpret, or listen to her work.” - Lori Tennenhouse, Artistic Director Grand Rapids Women’s Chorus
TEXT
THE KISS
There is a kiss-
I know you have received one- so pure and unmistakable
it leaves you flushed
with a deep, unconditional love. You can barely believe your lips-
the moisture
from the petals of this rose remains on your skin
and you remember
(as you linger
in the freshness of the dawn) what we poor humans
can do
with our slender lives when we’ve been
properly kissed.
